Of all the ways Drumpf will turn our country into a drumpfster fire, this one is worth noting:
Victims I support in my day job at a DA's office are afraid to come to court to testify against their perpetrators. They understand that they might be snatched by ICE while in the courthouse, and who could blame them? Our county is "not cooperating" with ICE, but victims know how that will go.
When we can't prosecute dangerous felons because the victims won't testify, charges have to be reduced or (worse) dismissed.
This leads to more dangerous criminals back on the streets, victimizing vulnerable populations. I'm assigned to the Elder and Dependent Adult Protection Unit and General Felonies. Those victims, if undocumented or even here legally, are afraid and now uncooperative. I support them in their choice and meet them where they are ... which is, thanks to Drumpf, hell on earth. Their choice is to continue to be abused by their abusers or return to the country from which they fled because they were persecuted or trapped in an abusive relationship condoned by intergenerational cultural norms.
Upshot: Drumpf's scorched earth modus operandi has created a MORE DANGEROUS society ... because he's a reckless narcissist surrounded by old, white sycophants.
If you're standing by, sidelined because you are overwhelmed, head in sand, avoiding the end of our democracy (and your 401K/IRA is still okay, thanks), know that your comfort zone will not last. Drumptf is coming for everyone.
